This is the continuing story of an amazing `barn find`, discovered just two miles from Racing Green Cars  - a 1954 Jaguar XK120M OTS with 52,000 miles from new,its second owner from 1955 to 2005 and now the property of Chris Window, who heads-up our Classic Workshop. The car had not turned a wheel in 41 years since it `went wrong` in 1964;it was just
abandoned in the (late) owner`s garage and cocooned in accumulated household debris until unearthed in June of this year.

The cause of its failure was soon found to be a jammed starter motor - simple you might think - but not. It was catastrophic: an `engine-out-job`. Lateral thought, however, by unbolting the engine from the bell housing, supporting both from below and depressing the clutch, enabled the the two components to separate, thus allowing the seized unit to be removed with relative ease.

Removal of the cylinder head, to check the valves, pistons and the bores, was a prerequisite.....everything was perfect; after some basic valve lapping and a carburettor overhaul, the head was replaced. At this stage the ignition electrics were checked,as was the fuel pump. A new alloy fuel tank was installed - the old one was `knee-high` in silt.

When we first saw the engine we were dismayed by the appearance... until it was discovered that the previous owner has sprayed everything with a fine mist of wax. The treatment had worked and all the alloy components were immaculately preserved.

Starter batteries, directly attached to the ignition, by-passing the unknown wiring, resulted in the 3.4 Litre engine firing immediately...and for the first time in 41 years. Moreover - the oil pressure was perfect and the engine sounded....A1!

The first hurdle in the rejuvination of MAP 288 - a 1954 Jaguar XK120 M Roadster, which had not seen the light of day in 41 years...was complete.
