The Racing Green Cars Jaguar XKSS to race at Goodwood

09/06/2005

The Goodwood Revival this year (September 16-18) will see, for the very first time,
the appearance, in action, of one of the world`s rarest sports-cars. Our 1957 Jaguar XKSS -
the `road-going` D-Type - has been invited to enter the Fordwater Trophy and we
have been delighted to accept.
This sturdy war horse has seen plenty of action in its time, not only winning its very
first race at Mansfield, Louisiana in April 1957, but widely campaigned throughout its
well documented life in the USA. In 2004 it took
part, for the third time, in the prestigious Mille Miglia, driven jointly by our Chairman,
Graham Love, and veteran Le Mans driver, Michael Salmon. Throughout the gruelling
1,000 mile journey, the XKSS never missed a beat and didn`t even need adjustment
to its complex multi-plate clutch.
Our XKSS is used frequently on the road - just as Jaguar intended - whether within UK,
or for a mad annual dash to Le Mans, such is its versatility. Blistering performance
transmitted through its all synchromesh gearbox, allied to terrific brakes and handling,
makes this a car to be reckoned with under any circumstances.
It is more than likely that the car will be driven, not trailered, to the Goodwood Revival.
Our XKSS (Chassis No.: XKSS701/XKD555), was built in Jaguar`s Experimental Department
in January 1957, shortly before the disastrous factory fire, and was immediately
shipped to the USA as the New York demonstrator. It remained in the USA until returning
to England in 1980 for restoration and subsequent sale into a private Japanese collection.
Purchased by Racing Green Cars in 2000, it forms the flagship of our Company, sitting
alongside our race-prepared XK150 fhc and Mk VII Saloon and our historic XK120 OTS: LOE 3.
We shall look forward to seeing you at The Goodwood Revival and you are welcome to view
this spectacular car in our showrooms (or workshop!) prior to the event.
