Our Jaguar XKSS a creditable 4th at Goodwood

22/09/2005

After several weeks of preparation in our classic workshop, the Racing Green Cars Classic Team basked in the satisfaction of seeing our 1957 Jaguar XKSS achieve fourth place in Sunday`s Fordwater Trophy at the Goodwood Revival.

Driven by veteran Le Mans driver, Michael Salmon, this exciting and rare sports-car never missed a beat in its first motor race since 1980.
Qualifying on Friday for Seventh place on the grid, the Sunday race saw Michael carving his way through the field ever mindful of bringing the car home safely and in one piece.

A dramatic spin by Brendan Roberts in his Lotus Elite, directly in front of Michael at the fast exit from Woodcote, could have had dire results had it not been for Salmon`s experience and skill.

From its creation in Jaguar`s Experimental Department in January 1957 and becoming the New York Demonstrator, right through to our ownership since the year 2000, this wonderful car - Chassis No.: XKD555/XKSS701 - has a continuous history.

Since winning its first ever race in April 1957 at Mansfield, Louisiana, and several enthusiastic owners; having completed three Mille Miglias, been driven regularly on the road and now being campaigned on the track,

Racing Green Cars are pleased to be playing the latest, enthusiastic, part in its continued provenance.

Despite predictions of rain, the 2005 Goodwood Revival enjoyed superb weather for all of its three days. Attended by a record crowd, in excess of 110,000, the event was action packed with plenty of thrills and, fortunately, very few spills.

It was a long and arduous week-end for our Team of engineers headed by Chris Window (left),

ferme.

The Goodwood Revival for 2006 will, hopefully, see the return of our popular Jaguar Mk VII in the two-driver St. Mary`s Trophy jockeying for position against the similar cars of Rowan Atkinson, Neil Hadfield and Tom Harris.
