Our Jaguar Mk7 exceeds expectations at Goodwood
19/10/2006
With our 1954 Mk7 Jaguar Saloon taking to the road at 01:00 hrs on Friday September 1st 2006 for the first time since its chassis up` rebuild, it was with little surprise that teething troubles emerged during practice for
the St. Mary`s Trophy only ten hours later.
The expertise of our VIP driver - Tony Dron - overcame these ensuring not only a constructive analysis of where the problems lay, but also that we had a respectable position on the grid for Saturday`s Round One of this two day event.
The end result was an agressive drive by Tony and an equally spirited erformance by our Chairman, Graham Love, on the Sunday.
The overall position was a Sixth Place for our team - just three places
behind Tiff Needell and Tom Harris and ahead of Sir Stirling Moss and
Rowan Atkinson, all driving similar cars.
Our team was, justifiably, well-pleased..................
Owing to the enormity of our task our other VIP driver, Michael Salmon,
with whom we have a very special association, piloted an MG Magnette to
ensure that he had a drive for this prestigeous week-end; better to have an assured drive than no drive at all and we would not have wanted to let him down at the last minute.
Dron, however was happy to be on stand-by for us and took to the task
with his legendary aplomb.
Once again Racing Green Cars proved that, no matter how daunting
may be the problems, we could complete the task in hand.
