| Description |
This magnificent and highly drivable XK150 with its 3.8'S engine, power steering and five speed box was manufactured on 30th June 1958, and supplied as a 3.4 Automatic DHC to its first owner by Henlys in Park ,London in July 1958. It was at some point exported to Sweden. It was brought back to the UK in 1998 by Jaguar specialists Twyford Moors.
The car was purchased from them and taken to Southern Classics in Surrey who carried out a full photographic body-off chassis rebuild, which took just over 12 months to complete. The Engine was rebuilt by XK specialist VSE in Wales and uprated to 3.8'S specification with Fast Road Cams, Stainless Steel 6-branch Exhaust Manifold, Unleaded & ported 'C Type' Cylinder Head, blueprinted Oil Pump, balanced and lightened Flywheel, continuous Timing Chain, Triple 45 DCOE ‘Weber’ Carburettors with Lynx inlet Manifold, Competition Clutch and a new Five Speed ‘Getrag’ Gearbox. Other upgrades included ‘Coopercraft’ 4 Pot Disc Brakes, new Suspension bushes, New Wiring loom, Power Steering, Limited Slip Differential, Oil Cooler & a Kenlowe electric cooling fan. All invoices for this work are in the history file, along with a Jaguar Heritage Certificate showing its original specification. Over £80,000 was spent on the restoration, bringing the total investment at that time to over £105,000.
The car was refinished in its original colour scheme of Carmine Red with a Biscuit Leather interior, Black Mohair Soft Top, 'S' badges and Chrome Wire Wheels.
Following the restoration and engine rebuild, the car was stored in a de-humidified garage. In the 11 years to 2011 it only covered 7,500 miles.
The last owner purchased the car in August from a classic specialist. The engine had been configured for racing so it was not suited to normal road use. He decided to change the carburettors and inlet manifold from Webers to SU's. These made the car much more drivable, were easier to adjust and brought the car into line with true XK150 "S" specification. Invoices show the work was completed very recently by The Jaguar Workshop in Chiswick at a further cost of £4000 and included removal of the cylinder head and extensive engine work for road use. To maintain the car's high performance the high lift camshaft was retained. This can be changed if so wished. However, it is still a very high performance car with a truly perfect Jaguar engine note!
